-Journal may become an Academic Series as Benue State University Makurdi Expresses Willingness to Adopt Journal
The strategy of collecting, analysing and disseminating empirical information on conflicts between pastoralists and farmers in the Benue valley; as a way of neutralizing erroneous narratives on the conflict has yielded gainful outcomes. The dousing tensions project has birthed a Benue Valley Journal of Conflict Management. The journal which is applauded for being one of the first empirical collection of research works and evidence based information on the conflict has received a nod by the department of Mass Communication, Benue State University who expressed willingness to adopt it for continuous publication beyond the project timeframe. The Head of Department, Professor Rodney Chibo at a recent meeting with the Dousing tensions Project Management Team assured that domiciling the journal at the University will widen its scope and reach; and furthermore encourage the academic community to research on the conflict and publish ground-breaking findings that will contribute to dousing tensions between Pastoralists and Farmers. A meeting with leadership of the department, the project management team and a Consultant commissioned by Misereor is being arranged for finalization of the process. In initial reaction, Cosmas Olaniyan, a consultant commissioned by Misereor who are funding the project expressed satisfaction with the move by the University to adopt the journal, saying it as a “cheering news”.
The project has also floated monthly situation dashboards on the conflict. The dashboards which are disseminated widely via the internet and hosted on FJDP’s website have received commendation from key stakeholders. The North central Nigeria Coordinator of West African Network for Peacebuilding (WANEP); and Executive Facilitator of CORAFID Nigeria applauded the report, saying it is a good early warning information package. He commended FJDP for being an active member of WANEP in the state and for being committed to promoting peaceful co-existence.
