The World Day of the Poor is a Roman Catholic observance established by Pope Francis in 2016, celebrated on the 33rd Sunday of Ordinary Time since 2017. It marks the end of the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy.
The first World Day of the Poor was held on November 19, 2017, with the theme, "Let us love, not with words but with deeds." Pope Francis emphasized that "the Our Father is the prayer of the poor" during this occasion.
In the same spirit, Faith-Based Organization FJDP, under the Catholic Diocese of Makurdi, began observing the World Day of the Poor in 2019. We've been actively assisting IDPs in camps and host communities throughout the state.
This year's theme is: 'Do not turn your face away from anyone who is poor' (Tob 4:7). We appeal for donations to support vulnerable IDPs living in makeshift tents without adequate food or shelter. Your contribution will make a difference as we aim to celebrate Christmas with them.
Please donate generously to help us reach out to these individuals in need. Thank you for your support as we plan to bring some Christmas cheer to the IDPs.
