SOS Children Villages in collaboration with the European Union held a three-day capacity building training for women and other marginalized groups on citizen journalism and responsible usage. Such training is essential in empowering women and other marginalized groups to have a voice and participate actively in national development.
It is also commendable that FJDP was in attendance and provided technical support during the training. This shows the commitment of FJDP to promoting gender equality and supporting the empowerment of women.
Facilitating was our very own Coordinator Revd Fr Remigius Ihyula who spoke on the topic "Women participation in peace-building and national development in Nigeria" which is very relevant to the current situation in the country. It is a known fact that women have played a critical role in the peace-building process and national development of many countries. Therefore, it is important to encourage and support women's active participation in peace-building and national development initiatives.
The Coordinator further said the call for the government to prioritize the inclusion of women in formal and informal peace-building initiatives is a vital one and that women have unique experiences and perspectives that can contribute to the reconstruction of peace in the society. Therefore, their active participation in peace-building processes can bring democratic values to the country and communities.
Overall, the capacity building training is a significant step towards promoting gender equality and empowering women to participate actively in national development.
