The Commissioner of Police, Nasarawa State Command Maiyaki Muhammed Baba has pledged the support of the Police to the resilience building project targeted for Awe Local Government Area of the state, and Guma LGA of Benue State. M.M Baba made the pledge while receiving the leadership of the Catholic Diocese of Makurdi Foundation for Justice, Development and Peace led by the Coordinator Rev. Fr. Remigius Ihyula. Presenting the programme tagged “Strengthening Community Resilience to armed conflicts between Pastoralists and Farmers- SCORE”, the Programme Manager of FJDP, Valentine Kwaghchimin thanked the Police in Nasarawa state for applauding the initiative to improve security across the borders of Nasarawa and Benue states through the Forum.
Presenting the three pillars aimed at absorbing the shocks of the conflict, adapting to the impacts of the conflict and transforming the situation to resilient communities, the Psychosocial Support Officers for Nasarawa and Benue states, Ibrahim Muhammed and Lunen Agah respectively stated that Psychosocial support services including arts and sport therapies and counselling will be provided to survivors of the conflict living with Post traumatic Stress Disorder.
The Programme Officer Timothy Tor added that advocacy has been planned for the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster management and Social Development; to influence inclusion of populations in Awe LGA of Nasarawa state; and Guma LGA of Benue State in national registers with a view to boosting economic resilience of pastoralists and farmers, affected by conflicts since 2018.
The SCORE Programme is being implemented by FJDP in partnership with Misereor, Germany and will span till the year 2025.
