In a significant effort to gain firsthand insights into the plight of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Benue State, Nigeria, Julia Kroger, the Head of Dialogue and Partnership Service (DPS), embarked on a two-day working visit. The purpose of her visit was to engage with Misereor partners in the region, namely FJDP and Samuel Ioron Foundation- SIF, to assess the current situation in IDP camps.
The delegation, led by the FJDP Programme Manager, the Admin Manager, and other dedicated staff members of both partners warmly received Julia Kroger at the Makurdi airport. From there, the team proceeded to visit the Ichwa, Ortese, and Daudu Camp 3 in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.
The visit proved to be a sobering experience as Julia Kroger was confronted with a deeply distressing scenario. The IDPs, facing unimaginable hardships, were observed sleeping on bare floors within open makeshift tents, deprived of basic necessities such as proper food and shelter. The heartbreaking sight of malnourished children added to the gravity of the situation.
This eye-opening visit highlighted the urgent need for concerted efforts and intensified support to alleviate the suffering of those affected by displacement. Julia Kroger's presence and engagement in the field underscore the commitment of Misereor to address the humanitarian crisis and collaborate with partners to find sustainable solutions.
Special thanks to Misereor for their unwavering funding support, which has been instrumental in our collective efforts to provide assistance and relief to those in need.
