The World Day for the Poor (WDFTP) is commemorated by the Catholic Church around the globe. It was established by Pope Francis so that throughout the world Christian communities can become a greater sign of Christ's charity for the least and those most in need.
The 2022 WDFTP is the 6th to be observed by FJDP. The organization reached out with love and support to vulnerable families across two Internally Displaced Persons’ Camps in Guma LGA of Benue State.
Over 2800 individuals were supported with clothing materials and food items. The food items included 1 big cow, 70bags of 25kg rice, 3 bags of 150kg garri and 350 bottles of Palm oil.
Other items distributed were 1 big bale of children clothes, 216 pieces of slippers, 750 pairs of children shoes, clothes and shoes for adults, sanitary materials, detergents, toilet soap, books, bags, etc.
The coordinator Foundation for Justice, Development and Peace, Rev. Fr. Remigius Ihyula in his opening remarks expressed sincere gratitude to everyone that donated to the cause, making it possible for the organization to share relief items to our friends who are displaced in this Yuletide season especially, All Saints Church Toronto Canada, Our Lady of Sorrows Toronto, Maria Donate Perillo and staff of the organization.
Good will messages were received from the Bishop Representative, Rev. Fr. Moses Iorapuu - the Vical General Catholic Diocese of Makurdi; other priests who graced the occasion included Rev. Fr. Theophilus Hwande who is the Superior General of the Via Christi Society, Rev. Fr. Peter Paleve - Coordinator Catholic Health Services, Rev. Fr. James Bature - Priest in charge of St. Francis Catholic Church Daudu, Seminarians and Mrs Fease, a humanitarian.
Also present were the Benue SEMA, UNHCR, Nigerian RedCross Society and the Eunice Spring of Life Foundation who donated generously.
