The FJDP Akwa-Ibom Field Office, in collaboration with UNHCR, commemorated World Refugee Day in Uyo yesterday with a road walk. The event brought together the UNHCR Head of Field Office in Calabar, FJDP staff, the Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom State, the SEMA DG, and the Director of Admin SEMA.
The day was filled with meaningful activities, starting with a vibrant road walk where participants showed their solidarity for refugees. After the walk, the event continued with a captivating dance presentation by the refugees, adding a touch of cultural richness and celebration.
In addition to the dance performance, refugee children actively participated in a debate, showcasing their talents and sharing their perspectives. The debate provided a platform for their voices to be heard, emphasizing the importance of empowering refugee youth.
To recognize the achievements and efforts of the participants, awards were presented to the winners of the debate. This served as a motivating factor, encouraging further engagement and acknowledging their remarkable contributions.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to UNHCR for their unwavering support throughout the event. Their commitment to protecting and assisting refugees is truly commendable, and we are grateful for the collaborative efforts in making World Refugee Day a memorable and impactful occasion.
Together, we stand with refugees, advocating for their rights, and working towards a more inclusive and compassionate society."
