Position Title: Legal Assistant
Contract Type: Temporarily

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The incumbent will have the following responsibilities:
* Advocate for proper interpretation of law and doctrine as well as in the development of standards of protection.
* Provide legal advice on these issue and drafting of position papers and guidelines on pertinent legal and operation issues.
* Provide guidance and support in the formulation of protection strategies
*Liaise with security agencies and other relevant actors to enhance awareness of protection principles.
* Engage with external partners and stakeholders, including governments, non – governments organizations, international organizations, on issues related to legal protection principles and in relation to international law.
* Handle individual cases and situation raising special questions of application or interpretation of international law, refugee and human rights law.
* Represent in meetings within FJDP and partners.
* Prepare protection documents and policies in cooperation with supervisor.
* Participate in the development of project proposal and project implementation.
* Perform other related duties as required.
ESSENTIAL MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
*University degree (Bachelor’s) in Law.
* Minimum of three years’ work experience in relevant work area.
* Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills,
* Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members.
* Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel.
* Sound overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS office application (Excel, word. etc.) and email/internet familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment.
* Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision, ability to work with tight deadlines
* Sound security awareness.
* Have affinity with or interest in FJDP’s mandate and volunteerism.
*Fluency in English and a local language (as applicable in the duty station).
