Our hearts are heavy with sorrow for the innocent Christian farmers who lost their lives in Nyiev, Hirnyam Community in Guma Local Government of Benue State.
As a faith-based organization, we are inspired to promote and protect the totality, rights and dignity, particularly those facing extreme vulnerabilities. In line with our commitment, FJDP swiftly responded to the tragic event, extending healing and solace to the afflicted internally displaced persons (IDPs) and refugees. These resilient souls have weathered multiple attacks, and yet, another heart-wrenching tragedy unfolded on the 10th and 11th of August. Four innocent lives were brutally taken in the Nyiev, Hirnyam community of Guma LGA, Benue state, at the hands of Fulani herders.
The victims had been tending to their farms near a dam, meticulously preparing ridges and fish farming, when their lives were ambushed by armed Fulani Herders. This cruel act etched a fresh wound in the community's heart, casting a lingering shadow of sorrow.
Amid the grief, a resolute spirit emerged from the community's midst. Among the voices raised were those of displaced women, both young and old. Their determination ignited as they seized control of the federal highway an act symbolizing their demand for accountability. Their cries reverberated, calling for more effective measures to safeguard the lives and aspirations of the community's indigenous souls.
As the community grapples with the irreplaceable void left by those who have departed, the wheels of justice must turn resolutely. The roots of violence must be exposed, and a steadfast stand taken against the cycle of suffering that threatens the very fabric of peace and well-being.
In the memory of the fallen, the pursuit of justice becomes a beacon of hope a testament to the resilience of a community that refuses to be silenced. Let us stand united, hand in hand, forging a path toward a safer, brighter future. Together, we strive for healing for the people of Benue State and for all the communities yearning for peace.
