Advocacy Engagement with NHRC for PWD inclusion in Electoral Processes
21st October, 2022
FJDP team led by the Administrative Manager, Mrs Blessing Adzaagee paid an advocacy visit to National Human Rights Commission Makurdi to solicit for PWD inclusion in electoral processes.
The Admin Manager who was accompanied by the FJDP Programme Officer, Timothy Tor and the President General of PWD in Benue State, Mr Torbem rolled out advocacy goal as stated above.
The State Coordinator, NHRC Mr Joseph Tyoyer received the team with open arms. He expressed willingness of the commission to ensure that rights of PWD are protected.
The Coordinator, further appreciated FJDP for the wake up call and promised to review their activity plans going forward, to mainstream PWD inclusion especially as they engage INEC and other relevant agencies and stakeholders towards 2023 general elections.
Responding, the PWD helmsman appreciated FJDP and NHRC for remembering them. He decried paucity of funds for securing an office space for PWD as well as requested for a PWD desk to be created at NHRC. In the meantime, PWD can be reached through FJDP pending when they secure an office space.
NHRC Coordinator responded swiftly by creating the PWD desk as well as appointing an officer.
High point of the event saw the presentation of visibilities with inscription "Make Polling Units Accessible for PWD"
