The Foundation for Justice, Development and Peace (FJDP), Catholic Diocese of Makurdi, was in Jato Aka, Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State, on 21st March 2023 to celebrate International Women’s Day (IWD) 2023 with Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).
Although International Women’s Day is globally marked on 8th March each year, FJDP was unable to commemorate the day with the IDPs on the official date. A more suitable date was therefore selected to celebrate with them and further enlighten them on the rights, dignity, and invaluable contributions of women in society.
The 2023 theme, “DigitALL: Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality,” guided the discussions and activities of the day.
The celebration featured active participation from the IDPs, including:
1. Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) with men and women
2. Dance presentations
3. Drama performances highlighting the importance, achievements, and roles of women in society
4. An awareness session on women’s rights
The event was both enlightening and impactful, as well as fun-filled, fostering greater appreciation for women’s rights and gender equality within the community.
